Partisan Politics Deepen as Democrats Remain Determined on CARES 4 Funding Demands

The Trump administration’s request to Congress last week for additional funding for more small business loans was left in jeopardy yesterday as Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) confirmed that they would not agree to further stimulus unless it included additional funding for hospitals, state and local governments, and food stamp recipients.
The Administration’s request to Congress had focused initially on money for additional small business loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin had hoped that the Democrat requests for funding demands beyond this would be held off for future legislation. However, Pelosi and Schumer stated Monday that they would not agree to the Trump administration’s request unless the additional funding was included.
